  • Osu celebrates annual Homowo Festival

On Tuesday Osiahene of Osu Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona visited the four areas of Osu as part of the annual celebrations that traditionally signal the end of hunger.

Osu was alive with jubilation as the two royal families and residents of Osu flooded the streets, clad in red to bring in the festival and eat the traditional food, Kpokpoi.

The festival has drawn people home from across Ghana and abroad, as they celebrate family and acknowledge ancestors and those who have passed.

The Homowo Festival, which means hooting at hunger, is celebrated by the Ga-Dangmes in Greater Accra.

Huge bowls of Kpokpoi and palmnut soup are made and then sprinkled around Osu to signify gratitude to the gods for blessing them with harvest.

Pulse News joined the procession on Tuesday, August 16 as the royals visited houses through the area.
