Poultry industry collapsing – Farmers

The immediate past National Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers, Mr Kwadwo Asante, has said government has abandoned the poultry industry and it is at the verge of collapse.

Mr Asante said little or no attention has been given to the poultry industry by the government, instead, attention is focused only on the fisheries sector and the cocoa farmers, although they all belong to the agriculture sector.

Mr Asante told the media at a seminar organised by PALS Africa for some poultry farmers in the Ashanti Region that: “We are all in the agriculture sector, but why does government take steps to reduce prices of premix fuel, outboard motors and cool rooms for fishermen and there’s no budget for the poultry sector? The Senior Minister recently put some fingerlings into some of the dams for fish farming, but no attention for poultry at all.”

He, therefore, urged government to come out with a clear policy on poultry to help revive the industry.
