1D1F: 191 proposals selected for 102 districts

Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen, has revealed that a number of viable projects have been selected out of a pool of 462 to be rolled out under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s One-District-One-Factory initiative.

Appearing on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, November 2 to answer questions relating to the programme, Mr Kyerematen said: “The Ministry’s team of consultants has completed technical, financial and commercial viability analyses of 462 of these proposals, out of which 191 covering 102 districts have been selected for implementation.”

Mr Kyerematen indicated that two of the prospective investors under the initiative are interested in establishing an organic fertiliser manufacturing plant and a sugar plantation and processing company in the Kumbungu District in the Northern Region.

For him, this will present job opportunities and complimentary economic activities and investments which will lead to significant wealth creation for the people in the district and surrounding districts.

He added that the Ministry is in the process of forming district implementation support teams for the programme in each district to be responsible for the oversight coordination and monitoring of each of the district enterprise projects under the One-District-One-Factory initiative.

The Minister reiterated that the programme is not only aimed at commencing the rapid industrialisation of Ghana’s economy, but also, creation of jobs needed by the masses of unemployed Ghanaian youth.
