  • Ghanaian star hobbles off in West Ham debut after injury

The Black Stars vice-captain was handed a start by manager Slaven Bilic in the opening Premier League game for West Ham and played 32 minutes before leaving the football pitch.

Andre was chasing Eden Hazard for a ball when he appeared to have pulled a thigh mussle.

The West Ham physio attended to the Ghanaian on the pitch but later indicated to Slaven Bilic the player needs to be substituted.

Coincidentally, Ayew’s debut for Swansea City in the Premier League was against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge where he scored in the 2-2 draw.

The Ghanaian player ended his first season at Swansea City as the club’s top scorer with 12 goals.

  • West Ham to wait on Ghana midfielder’s injury

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic says the club will have to wait and see how serious Andre Ayew’s injury is before making any plans moving forward.

Ayew, 26,  was making his first competitive start for the Hammers since joining from Swansea during the summer.

But the Ghana international was forced off after just 35 minutes at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.

Ayew suffered the injury as he chased after Chelsea forward Eden Hazard during the 2-1 defeat in the Premier League.

Regarding Ayew’s injury, Bilic has to wait for scan results before passing judgement.

“Ayew has a thigh injury,” he confirmed.

“He told me it is not a big one, but you never know and he will have a scan on Tuesday and we have to wait for the result of the scan to know how long he will be out.”

Bilic and his wounded squad will need to regroup quickly, as the Hammers travel to Romania on Wednesday for a UEFA Europa League play-off round first-leg tie with Astra Giurgiu on Thursday evening.
