  • Anas’ GJA award prejudicial – Dery’s lawyer

Lawyers for embattled high court judge, Justice Paul Dery, have described as prejudicial the crowning of Anas Aremeyaw Anas as the Journalist of the Year at the 21st GJA awards.

Justice Dery was one of the 34 judges indicted in the judicial corruption expose’ by Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger eye PI team.

Anas took home a Hyundai SUV as Journalist of the Year for the investigative piece that has resulted in the dismissal of several judicial staff and also led to the removal of about 20 judges from the bench.

But lawyer for Justice Dery, Nii Kpakpo Addo told Starr News the award to Anas is contemptuous.

“On the October 27,2016 the Supreme court of this republic is going to deliver judgement as to whether or not Tiger eye had the legal capacity to have petition the president for removal of my client…we also have ongoing matters at the high court which are challenging the method and legality of the ways and means by which these entities procured the so called evidence against our client and in the face of this serious on going proceedings, when you award these entities and individuals with an award, that seeks to validate their actions what you are doing is you are going behind the court in saying that despite these legal challenges against these persons in our opinion, whatever they have done is lawful and therefore they deserve recommendation.

“The actions of the GJA and its awards committee is pre-judicial to the ongoing cases in court …. if they did not know they are ongoing cases in court against them, then we have told them,” he narrated.

The exposed judicial staff included 22 Magistrates and 12 High Court Judges. Anas’ two-year investigative work captured them on video taking bribe to pervert justice.
