  • Auction Mahama’s armoured vehicles – Allotey Jacobs

Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs has advised that current government to auction the controversial 43 vehicles if it feels it has no need for them.

According to him, the previous government saw the need for the vehicles including 9 armored vehicles to be among the presidential pool prior to leaving office since government is a continuous process wondering what has gone wrong fundamentally in their acquisition.

He also shot down claims that the purchase of the customized vehicles were also in bad faith when the government of the day at the time knew it was exiting power.

“If government knows it does not like the vehicles, it should auction them. I am sure there are people in Ghana who are willing to buy such vehicles for personal use. For now we do not know who is telling the truth and who is lying but I am sure they had discussions behind the scenes before approval was given for the purchase of these vehicles”, he disclosed on Adom TV’s Badwam on Wednesday.

Mr Allotey Jacobs believes finality to this matter will come if the current Chief of Staff makes her findings on the matter public until then he stands by the assertion that there were agreements between the outgoing and incoming governments before the purchase.

It would be recalled that the previous NDC government ordered the supply of 43 specialised vehicles worth more than $9m barely eight days to the handing over of power.

The customized cars are capable of firing rounds of ammunition and are designed to withstand the effects of a hand grenade.

All four sides of the passenger compartment and the roof of the vehicle are protected using high-quality armour steel and glass defeating NATO ball ammunition, the supplier Shell Specialty Vehicles described the vehicle.

  • Mahama oblivious of cause of Mills’ death – Allotey Jacobs

The Central regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs says President John Dramani Mahama was oblivious of late President John Atta Mills’ deteriorating health leading to the latter’s demise.

According to him, only four people including him knew about late President Mills’ ill health. The cause of the untimely demise of President Mills in 2012 has been a mystery, as Ghanaians crave for answers.

Posters demanding answers regarding the death of the late president emerged in some areas in Cape Coast, the Central regional capital during the NDC campaign launch in that region on Sunday.

The posters were sighted at places such as Pedu junction, Abura, Adisadel, Moree barrier, Aggrey Memorial SHS, Cape Coast-Takoradi highway and around new the Cape Coast stadium, the venue for the campaign launch. It was, however, not clear who were behind the posters.

Reacting to demands of the said posters on Accra-based Neat FM’s ‘Ghana Montie’ show, Mr. Jacobs explained that he together with three others knew the cause of President Mills’ death.

“…Let me confirm this,” he told the show host Akwasi Aboagye “we are just four people who know about Professor Mills sickness. His two siblings [Dr Cadman Atta Mills and Sammy Atta Mills], myself, and his long time bodyguard, Mr. ASP Adadei. Prof. Mills was dear to our hearts; he shared his frustration, sickness and development with us [the four].”

According to him, President Mahama has no knowledge of his boss’ failing health and that “People don’t know about this so they just get up and malign innocent people in this country.”

He asked: “…What at all has President Mahama done? What sin has he committed? Just because God has anointed him to be president?”

He said those demanding answers as to the cause of President Mills’ death “are just hurting the family [Mills family]. The man is dead and gone. Curse will be upon those behind this [he accused the NPP]. Death will run through their camp.”
