Punish NPP gangsters – Iddrisu

Minority leader Haruna Iddrisu has described political party vigilantism as a scar on governance in the country.

Contributing to a statement on Africa Youth Day in parliament on Wednesday, 1 November 2017, Mr Iddrisu called on government to punish lawless youth who engage in vigilantism.

His comment comes in the wake of recent acts of violence by pro-government youth groups across the country.

“Vigilante groups – it is not enough to condemn, it is only adequate to punish to deter. When you have vigilante groups associated with a political party, you have vigilante groups chasing National Health Insurance persons out of their offices and DCEs out of their offices and all you hear is the Minister of Interior saying: ‘henceforth’. What henceforth? It is a scar on governance of our country. Every Ghanaian worker including NPP appointed DCEs and their heads of institutions must work freely and free from intimidation and free from fear. I support the Minister that ‘ganstarism’ must end. So, call the vigilante groups to order,” Mr Iddrisu stated.

There have been about 20 recorded cases of violence by pro-government youth groups since the NPP won power in the 2016 polls.
